Every time this summer-loving Edmonton wedding photographer travels to Palm Springs to visit my parents, I get the itch to shoot in the desert. The colours at sunset, wind in my hair, (and desire to never come across a rattlesnake) warm my heart. The mountains, sunsets, and diversity of scenery are so different than what we have at home and it DEFINITELY helps that I can wear my flip-flops in February.
It worked out well that Kade and Megan were in the Coachella Valley for a wedding at the same time I was there. Kade and I grew up together in High Level and have kept in touch over the years. He saw my travel plans posted on Instagram and reached out to book a session for Megan. I had no problems leaving the pool for this session!
My usual go-to location is Joshua Tree National Park but I wanted to try something new this time. After a bit of location scouting, I knew we had to start out at the Thousand Palms Oasis in the Coachella Valley Preserve, where hundreds of palm trees are nestled among the barren desert mountains. I also knew I wanted to finish up the session at the windmills west of Palm Springs (hint: park at the Amtrak station for a 2-minute walk to the windmills).
We managed to avoid being decapitated by a rouge windmill blade, bitten by a rattlesnake, or losing any shoes in the loose sand so I would say this session was a win! Oh, and these two look ridiculously good!
I’ll be headed back to the valley in June for an epic bachelorette party and I know I’ll be pushing to head back to these spots.
