Want to save money on your wedding? Develop a wedding day timeline.
One of the most important aspects when planning your wedding is a timeline. A timeline is a written plan of the day’s events that is used for multiple reasons. It is often looked at as a way to ensure things move smoothly and to communicate where and when things need to be done. As a photographer, I initially use your timeline for a slightly different reason, and I can use it to save you money.
Often a couple will contact me and let me know they are looking for 10 hours of photography coverage, however, once we create a timeline of their day, they actually only require 6 or 8 hours of photography coverage. By putting the day’s events down on paper, we will see exactly what the coverage needs are and more often than not, they are less than what the couple anticipated. By doing this simple exercise, we are able to save them $1000 – $2000 before they even sign a contract with me.
Once the initial timeline is created, I suggest going over it with your other vendors. Your hair and makeup artist may be able to push your appointments back a little in the day based on the time you need to be finished. The florist might wish to deliver your florals later in the day to avoid any wilting on the hot summer days we get in Edmonton. And maybe lunch needs to be prepared a little earlier than anticipated to allow time for last minute touchups and for getting into your dresses. The timeline is the perfect tool for making all of these decisions.
